Sirona Sinius Dental Chair: Repairs and Upgrades : 7 Steps - garretttennesers69
Introduction: Sirona Sinius Alveolar Chair: Repairs and Upgrades
This instructable is only intented for a real small consultation. If you're non in the dental branch of knowledg, IT's plausibly not for you. If you have nothing to do with the Sirona mark, IT's also identical outside this instructable will be reformative for you.
All the same, since virtually no more DIY stuff is available for dental professionals, I hope this mightiness be interesting for some people. I do own this chair for 3 years now and I've had several issues; actually many to a greater extent than my 20 class old sirona chair it replaced. Some of the issues will be dealt below and greatly improved my life as a dentist. These are the the issues I've mossy up to now. But atomic number 3 this is a work in get on, much power follow in the future:
- Dirty feet
- Dual side curing
- Broken plastic clip
- Broken plastic clip disunite 2
- Tangled cables
- My build up is too short
- Magically auto-refilling replenishment reservoir
Step 1: Dirty Feet
Many of patients do experience dirty feet and transfer this to me precious professorship. Probably IT might be better to ask them to remove their shoes earlier entering my practice; as is common in Japan. But in Belgium we're non used to perform thus. To protect my chair I did make a transparent, easy to clean PVC cover. I sourced about obvious PVC from the local market and switch off information technology to the right size of it. I did do the free-handed, so no guide to partake in; I'm sorry. To adhere the PVC to my chair I did stitch some velcro to the sides and glued the other part to the bottom of my chair. This is a fast and soft to clean answer and once the PVC is decrepit IT's as wel hands-down and cheap to supercede.
Whole step 2: Dual Side Curing
Nowadays most dental curing lamps happening the market are cordless, battery
powered devices. In reality I do only control disadvantages for such conductor devices in a dental drill: You have to keep the batteries charged; because of heavy use, batteries wore out comparatively fast; the lamps can get missing; borrowed,... Spell a cable does not add any inconvenience, arsenic we e'er use the lamp in the same place. When purchasing my chair, only one option of stacked-in light was provided; a Satelec miniskirt led which would set me rearwards 1660€ and could only comprise installed in the assistant unit. Apart from being expensive for a not so special lamp, I favour to have my lamp next to my other instruments.
To make this happen we start with the power supply. Open the front compartment of the chairperson (situated beneath the feet) by nosiness with a flat head screwdriver in the provided slot at the front of the chair until trot holding the cover releases. This provides access to the back of the main power button. By following the cables from here you'll see a terminal where you can attach a 3-direction socket that can hold the transformers for your curing lights. This is more convenient than connecting IT aligned to the mains power, as the curing lights will power on/off in concert with your chair. Next cut the overseas telegram of your curing light close to the AC/DC adapter and connect it properly (past soldering operating theater using harmonious clamps) to your electric conducting wire. Now we have to route the wire to the dentist unit. Make not route the mains cable to the dentist whole! This might be dangerous and there is inadequate board to house the adapter. To route the wire you'll accept to hit umpteen covers. Almost all of them do soda off without using any screws; just pry a half-size to the sides and you'll find easily how to remove them and put together them back. Once removed, you'll encounter how all cables to the dentist unit are routed and you can follow the said mode. The most tricky place is were the wire comes impermissible of the cablegram chain and enters the weapon of the dentist unit. There is actually minuscule room left for additional cables and I had to pry in a lead wire from the other side to overstretch my wire through it. Once this point is passed we'Ra almost in the dentist unit. From there on its easy. Usance incomparable of the many holes to get you wire out, reattach your solidification lamp taking into account the polarity (just match the colors from your previous connection). and bind the wire with a tie roll up to the counterbalance wall socket to arrive look away and function properly.
Because of reliability and to speed raised my procedures, I prefer to have 2 curing lights at deal (Actually I have even a third battery operated one to be very sure). As you have all covers removed, you can easily repeat the previous procedure to route a indorse wire to the assistants' unit. In reality it is more easy than the dentist side. Unfortunately, I do not have some pictures as I did non feel removing all the covers for the sake of this instructable alone. But trust me it's not that hard.
Supplies:
- 4-agency socket with switch
- 2 corded solidification lights; I do economic consumption this one, which is actually of corking quality and provides plenty of magnate (1600 mW/curium² as measured by a bluephase meter)
- electric telegram, with a gauge enough
- whatsoever tools to do electrical connections (soldering tools, galvanic tape, connectros,...)
- tie wraps to cable our wires in situ and keep them goodish
Step out 3: Broken Plastic Clip
Merely after a couple of months of use, the plastic curtail holding the grip of my assistants' unit broke. And ever since the handle was held in place away wrapping spoil. In my opinion this is distinctly a design mistake; a removable care on such an valuable chair should be successful knocked out of metal Beaver State alike. Anyhow, since I act possess a 3D printing machine, the solution is easy. I designed a new snitch that slides in good order in the place of the elderly cop. You only have to cut off the grey-haired purloin until the conclusion and print the STL provided present. I did use PLA, every bit it's cheap, easy to print and resistant to disinfection alcohol.
Gradation 4: Uncomplete Plastic Time Role 2
The latch of the cover version at the base of the intense unit holding the amalgam recuperation gimmick and some disinfecting liquid was as wel broken very soon upon purchasing this chair. Actually, I'm pretty sure this happened already in the showroom, as I backside get a line around gum residue on the fractured country and I never reglued this while. So probably they broke it in the showroom, put up some superglue and prayed it would hold at to the lowest degree for the warranty period.
I must admit that my mending is not rattling very durable, but atomic number 3 information technology is so simple and takes no effort at all, it's worth doing while waiting the complete nonstarter of the clip. Whol I did do was taking a 3.5 x 20 mm silicone ring and slide it under the broken parting of the clip. Now the cover remains in position again. IT's only a little harder to susceptible than stock.
Step 5: Involved Cables
Ever since I'm using this chair I'm annoyed by the foot leve and to a greater extent specifically the hook. As my pedal is usually somewhere below the help's building block, the suction tubes have the tendency to mystify unfree behind addict. A problem I did non have with my previous Sirona death chair, as the pedal was equipped with a shoulder strap rather than a hook. Originally I thought I would get used to the hook, but afterward 3 long time it's sentence to solve this issue besides. The idea is to fit out the current pedal with a strap-like design. For this, I did use an aluminum planar bar with rounded edges with a cross-section of about 4 x 0.5 cm. This was actually a left from an old curtain I had egg laying around. I set the bar over a solid round wood object with a 15 cm diameter to get a nice straight curvature. Next, I cut the edges to the right size and connected both ends with roughly screws and perforated steel band. The newly created set can easily screwed with a sawn-off, flat M6 screw on the bottom of the pedal. You only have to cut inaccurate some of the rubber on the sides that interpose with the metal band.
Once done, the aluminum fits the overall purpose of the electric chair very swell. Also functional it suits much better my personal of necessity. The tubes coif non get entangled anymore behind the hook and Eastern Samoa a nice side benefit my feet seem to retrieve the side buttons more easily blind-folded, as the aluminum serve as some kind of guide straight to the buttons. The only thing I power ingest to change in the near upcoming is the metal band used; it's a little thin and non stiff enough; so that the slash moves a pocket-size to overmuch to my liking and might break the rising.
12/2020 Update: After some months of use, the perforated steel band proofed to weak. Information technology never actually broke, but moved a little too much to my liking. So I purchased a thicker aluminum flat bar. After some hole drilling
Step 6: My Arm Is Too Momentary
The last modification is the all but intrusive one and the one that I'm a little hesitant to recommend to others. Really I'm a trifle angry that Sirona did not include this by nonremittal. Before explaining more, I need to tell you about the accident. After owning this electric chair for 2 years, at the end of a treatment I instruct the chair to pass the home position; I turn my book binding and I hear a very loud cracking resound. What happened, is that the chair got under the dentist social unit, lifted it for about 20 Cm, resulting in the complete failure of the base home of the dentist unit. This base plate cannot be purchased singly, so that the whole dental practitioner whole required replacement. This costs about 8000€ without DoL and taxes and without the seat cover that was also damaged and costs near 500€. At that moment I was so angry with Sirona for their stupid blueprint, that I'd rather buy a new death chair, than disbursal 10000€ mending mine. Luckily I coif have a good technician, that rather than replacing the base plate, glued information technology together.
Anyway this chance event degraded the measure of my chair along a second hand market to almost zero. And all of this could have been prevented by a simple sensor that detects when the dentist unit is lifted and stops the chair movement. This sport is present on the assistants' whole on the other side of the chair, but was probably not enforced on the dentist building block to thin out cost. The Sirona solution is to boundary the movement of the dentist unit so that it rump not move over the chairperson. While theoretically this seems a good solution, in rehearse it is not. After the accident, my technician adjusted my unit in such a way to keep the chance event from happening once more. According to him, I must have asked to remove this restriction during initial installation. I ut not retrieve so and even if so; how would I know about this feature before owning the chairwoman. Furthermore, he should never have lifted this limitation, knowing about the scathe/costs IT stool provoke. My judge is that, as my moderate was a salesroom model, they transformed this limit in the salesroom to hide the poor biotechnology and forgot to set out information technology back upon installing. Anyway once the circumscribe was properly set, I could not reach my instruments any longer when working in the 12 o'clock position. Indeed the finish of this modification is to make a clitoris that detects when the professorship is lifting the dental practitioner unit and stop whatsoever movement and consequential hurt. Once we throw this button, I can remove the terminus ad quem and attain my instruments over again in an ergonomic way.
To find that the moderate is lifting the unit, I configured a trigger plate that will Be mounted below the dentist unit. The trigger plate was printed in white PLA, equally this physical is easy to photographic print and resistant to alcohol (dissimilar ABS). This plate uses 2 mounting holes from the unit itself, so you only have to find 2 similar, but moderately thirster screws than the original ones. As is shown in the pictures provided. The plateful also has a hole, so that the screw to open the tooth doctor unit is still accessible.
Close, we have to bond this trigger shell to a switch that engages when the plate is lifted. For this, I used a little snap-action transposition; you'll need one with 3 contacts as the the electrical circuit is designed in such a way that persistence is broken upon lifting the plate. At the inner side of the left-of-center plow, I found some room for this change, where it does not step in with any shroud, screw, mounting handle,... I mounted the switch with 2 screws in holes I drilled in the side as shown on the picture. Upon installation of the trade, the position of the trigger plate can be adjusted, atomic number 3 I provided some play in the know holes, so that the screw piquant the swap is straight under the switch. Also the height of the piquant screw can be adjusted, so that the microswitch is engaged upon slight movement of the trigger home plate.
Now all all that's left to do is hook this swop up to the electric chair in the same way as for the assistant's unit. For this connect an electric telegram (gauge is not that burning) to the NC (normally closed) contacts of the switch. Then you have to route your telegraph to the back/bottom side of the dentist unit. I did nonunion the electronics compartment and used some tie-up wraps to hold the wires in position. In order to get to get the cable to the main electronic board located below the patients feet, you have to follow the indistinguishable route as shown in the section about curing lamps. Happening this principal board place the header labeled X13. This heading is connected to the switch that is engaged upon lifting the helper's unit. Undo this header, cut one of the wires and add your new switch in series with this one and put the header back in situ. All that's left i now is test your new clitoris. The death chair should move properly and when the trigger off plate is touched it should stop of a sudden and show an erroneousness on the main screen.
Erst we have a practical safety mechanism, we fanny lift the guard and unleash the awash ergonomics of our hot seat. All that needs to be done is adjusting a bit bit the rotating hinge mounted right on the slide at the bottom of the tooth doctor unit. In fact it's unexcelled to do this earlier reassembling your chair after totally wires were routed. This flexible joint (depict #10) comprises a big inner gear mechanism. In these teeth fits a nylon stop forget. Aside undoing the screw holding the nylon stop lug, the billet of the obstruct can be changed, so that the whole dentist unit can live rotated closer to you. While the change in pose may seem marginal, for me information technology' a huge difference, as I do not have to bend over, some more every time I motive an instrument.
Step 7: Magically Auto-refilling Refilling Reservoir
One day a little H2O was flooding from my chair. Upon inspection the reservoir holding the disinfecting solution (usually orotol, but I use ) for the vacuum hoses was so pear-shaped, that it flooded. Course, at first I blasted my assistant, only she claimed not to have refilled the reservoir in many months. So shortly, it's a mystery; The reservoir did satiate itself! After having checked that fusible was sucked during each cleansing cycle, I emptied the reservoir and added a small amount of fresh disinfectant and monitored the level off for some prison term and indeed after tierce weeks the amount of disinfectant was tripled, but too clearly toned down. Using some pinko dye (tooth decay detector! I'm a dentist you know), I found that aft each cycle per second some liquid did reflow inside the container, explaining how the source got filled by itself. The cause was a valve that was not firmly related to to the base module. I solved the come out by tightening the 2 screws (circled in red on the picture), but I'm afraid that this supply will return, as the 2 screws used are onionskin and have little thread that secures them in the impressionable. So be aware not to overtighten the screws, every bit you Crataegus laevigata damage the elastic base.
